RAM is set to farewell its all-conquering TRX 1500 with the limited-run Final Edition – now available in Australian from $249,950 plus on-road costs.
The V8-powered model – which retails for $25,000 more than the ‘base’ TRX 1500 – will soon be superseded by a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder powered successor. Just 130 examples of the Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition will be made available.
Fitting of the model’s swansong, we find an appropriate bevy of additional equipment and distinguishing features, including Final Edition specific paint colours – Delmonico Red, Harvest Sunshine, and Night Edge Blue – bespoke 18-inch bead-lock capable alloy wheels in Satin Titanium, and Satin Titanium detailing across the bonnet and tailgate.
Moving inside the TRX 1500 Final Edition offers embroidered logos on the seats, dashboard upper, and door card inlays, and matte carbon-fibre weave on the instrument panel frame, and door and steering wheel garnishes.
As expected of a limited-run variant, a numbered build plaque adorns the centre console. The model also boasts its own start-up graphics on the instrument panel, and Satin Titanium cabin badging.
“The first TRX was engineered to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme capability and durability,” said Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber.
“These TRX Final Editions round-out that legacy and we’re delighted to secure 130 of them from our colleagues at Ram Trucks International and send off the legendary 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 in the style it deserves.”
As noted by Mr Barber, the 1500 TRX Final Edition is the last to feature a supercharged V8 beneath the ‘hood’. Producing an enormous 523kW of power and 882Nm of torque, the unit drives an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive configuration to deliver an astonishing 4.5-second 0-100km/h time.
Ram continues to be the strongest selling locally converted American pick-up truck Down Under. To the end of March, the 1500 has sold 886 examples nationally, outpacing considerably the Ford F-150 (616) and Chevrolet Silverado (548).
