BRILLIANT performance, exceptional handling. Those accolades are heaped on all sorts of motoring dross these days, but they are words that actually mean what they say when applied to the Mercedes-Benz C63. The smallest Mercedes-AMG model is a heavily breathed-over C-class, with the kind of performance that will make your eyes water and an engine note that will make anyone who loves cars weak at the knees. Its appearance may suggest it is little more than a warmed-over executive sedan covered in a plain wrapper, but look beyond the exterior and consider it is motivated by a fire-breathing 6.2-litre V8, and you’ll find that this C-class certainly is no boiled lolly.

Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG
Released: September 2004
Ended: June 2007
Family Tree: C-ClassTHE uber-W203-series C-class sedan was the C55 AMG, powered by a 270kW/510Nm 5.4-litre V8, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Available from the W203's September 2004 midlife upgrade, it replaced the W203 C32 AMG (November 2001 to August 2004), which was powered by a supercharged 3.2-litre V6. Hence, the C55 marked the return of V8 firepower to the C-class for the first time since the W202-based C43 AMG of the late 1990s.
