Future models - Chery - Tiggo 9 PHEVChery Tiggo 9 plug-in debuts in ChinaBeijing Auto Show reveal for latest Chery Tiggo 9 variant, this time with plug-in hybrid technology26 Apr 2024 By MATT BROGAN CHERY has revealed its Tiggo 9 PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) at this week’s Beijing Auto Show, the newest addition to the Tiggo SUV portfolio showcasing what the Chinese manufacturer says is the latest in state-of-the-art technology that will launch the brand into the future.
Powered by a familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission the Tiggo 9 PHEV delivers 175kW of power and 385Nm of torque, while the hybrid systems 3DHT electric motor boasts maximum power of 165kW.
Chery says the arrangement achieves fuel consumption of as little as 5.2 litres per 100km on the WLTC test cycle, “striking a perfect balance between power and efficiency”. The electrical assistance provided can extended driving range “beyond 1400km, effectively addressing user range anxiety and ushering in a new era of green, long-range travel”.
With bespoke design elements identifying the variant as a PHEV, the Tiggo 9 is characterised by an octagonal-shaped grille, dynamic body lines, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the variant offers what Chery describes as a “warm and tech-savvy space”. The cabin includes a high-resolution 15.6-inch infotainment screen, multifunctional centre console, and “3D” stitched seats to offers “visual appeal and ensure unmatched comfort”.
While it is yet to be confirmed whether the Tiggo 9 PHEV will be headed to Australia, it is understood that more information on the variant will be brought to light closer to its scheduled production date later in the year.
There are currently five models under the Tiggo nameplate offered globally. Locally, the Chery range currently includes the Omoda 5 (from $34,490 drive-away) and Tiggo 7 Pro (from $39,990 drive-away). It is expected the Omoda 7 will be announced imminently, further broadening the Chinese brand’s SUV portfolio.
