Land Rover's legendary Defender gets new seats and a Ford diesel as its replacement nears

31 Aug 2006

LAND Rover has given its iconic Defender 4WD a makeover for the first time since 2002.

While the company remains committed to producing an all-new version of the model that dates back to 1948, several significant 2007 model year changes are aimed at extending the current model’s life.

These include a new Ford-sourced, common-rail EU4 emissions-compliant 90kW/360Nm 2.4-litre 16-valve four-cylinder variable-geometry turbo-diesel, a new six-speed transmission with a wider ratio spread, a revised bonnet profile, a new dashboard with all-new heating/ventilation and redesigned seats (each with three-point belts) for the four-seater Defender 90 and five-seater Defender 110 and 130 models.

A seven-seat Defender 110 will also be available.
