Mini JCW E electric Goodwood bound

MINI will showcase a prototype version of its incoming John Cooper Works E (electric) at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Mini says the JCW E PROtotype (as it is known) represents a significant milestone not only for the sporting nameplate but the brand itself, offering a “striking design and advanced electric drive”.

The production version of the Mini JCW-E is expected to arrive in the latter part of the year.

Mini is yet to provide any specifications or technical information, though GoAuto understands the model will offer considerably more power than high-performance ICE-powered Minis of the past, including that of the blistering 225kW Mini GP.

As has been the case in the past, it is further expected JCW-E variants will offer a more dynamic chassis tune and improved braking, along with distinctive styling, sportier seats, and even racetrack focused gauges and telemetry.

“Celebrating its world premiere later this year, the Mini John Cooper Works E represents a bold move in MINI's evolution, combining the brand's rich heritage with cutting-edge technology. The future John Cooper Works line-up will include both petrol and all-electric models,” said Mini in a statement.

“In a nod to Mini’s historic victory of the Mini Cooper S at the 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo 60 years ago, the race car features a distinctive camouflage designed by the Mini Design Team, and the ‘37’ logo, commemorating this milestone achievement. This emblem serves as a homage to Mini’s rich motorsport tradition.

The Mini JCW E PROtotype is the latest in a line of sporting models to make their global debut at the famed motorsport event.

The Festival of Speed and its iconic Hill Climb have in recent times debuted models including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance and Taycan, Volkswagen ID.R, to name but a few.
