Designed to test and prove vehicle integrity and process quality, this second prototype phase ensures customer vehicles set to be delivered in 2020 match Polestar’s standards.
According to Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath, the company – jointly owned by Volvo and Geely – is doing its best to keep its promise of delivering cars in the first half of next year.
“Polestar 2 tooling trial prototypes are now rolling off the final production line in the Luqiao factory, and so nearing series production,” he said.
“We will continue to make good on our promises.”
The Polestar 2 gets all-wheel drive and some 300kW of power and 660Nm of torque.
With a 0-100km/h sprint of less than five seconds and an effective driving range of 500km, the Polestar 2 has the Tesla Model 3 firmly in its crosshairs.
Production of the left-hand drive only Polestar 1 (not coming to Australia) has also been successful as more cars roll off the production line and operations are ramped up.
