Sydney show: Volvo gears up for C30

Hatched: C30 will put Volvo in the small hatch arena in April 2007.

Volvo debuts all-new C30 hatch and reveals pricing for its upcoming S80 sedan

27 Oct 2006

VOLVO used yesterday's Sydney motor show opening to reveal pricing for its new S80 flagship sedan, which arrives in January with prices starting from $71,950 for the six-speed manual D5 diesel and topping out at $95,950 for the AWD V8.

The Yamaha-sourced V8 develops 235kW/440Nm and, combining with a six-speed automatic, will send the car from 0-100km/h in a claimed 6.5 seconds.

The 2.4-litre D5 diesel is also shared with the XC90, developing 136kW/400Nm in the S80.

Apart from the S80, Volvo also showed its all-new C30 hatch and C70 coupe-cabrio.

A 134kW/350Nm 2.0-litre D5 turbo-diesel engine is also expected to join the line-up.

The C30 measures just 4250mm in overall length – 220mm shorter than the S40 sedan – but offers similar high levels of passive and active safety as well as the same interior packaging. The C30 goes on sale in April.

The other main attraction on the Volvo stand is the C70 coupe-convertible, which is available in two guises: the 125kW 2.4-litre $69,950 LE and 162kW 2.5-litre $70,950 T5.
