Stylish, spacious and European, the Opel Corsa-based, Spanish-built SB Barina offered light car buyers a wide variety, from well-equipped (44kW 1.4L 5-door Swing) and sporty (78kW 1.6L 3-door GSi) to a base (and slow) economy model (33kW 1.2 City).
Dual airbags became standard from Nov ’95.
However, unlike its ultra-reliable predecessors, the SB Barina suffered teething quality and reliability problems, and didn’t handle as crisply. A 4-speed auto was also available.
