Honda’s front-wheel drive mid-sized sedan split into two – the smaller (and very stylish) Japan-sourced Euro, and a larger (and ultra conservative) Thai-built sedan.

The latter appeals to faithful Accord buyers of recent years that are attracted to its smooth road manners, spacious interior, high comfort levels and consistent build quality.

This model added more room and improved road behaviour, though keen drivers will scoff at the overly light steering’s numbness.

Two engines are available – an adequate 118kW/218Nm 2.4-litre VTEC four-cylinder engine, or a superbly smooth yet ferocious 177kW/287Nm 3.0-litre VTEC V6.

Both are married to a five-speed automatic gearbox. Like its Mk6 predecessor, this big Accord’s role in life is to lure hundreds of thousands of US family car buyers annually, and it shows.
