Australia missed out on the first generation, Mk3 Civic derived CRX, so its successor was eagerly awaited by the time it arrived on the back of the new Mk4 Civic range in late 1987.
The squat two-seater three-door hatchback “coupe” quickly carved out a popular niche for itself, wooing buyers with it pert styling, eager 94kW 1.6L twin-cam 16-valve four-cylinder engine and double-wishbone suspension-enhanced handling and roadholding.
A minor facelift and a standard sunroof arrived during ’89.
Today this generation CRX has deservedly achieved cult status.
