Beijing to host Auto China 2016

3 Dec 2015

By ROBBIE WALLIS in BEIJING

Auto China has wrapped up for another year, with a number of new cars being revealed, including many that will be made exclusively for the Chinese market.

Mazda revealed its CX-4 compact SUV, the production version of the Koeru concept that was shown at last year's Frankfurt show.

Volkswagen showed off its T-Prime SUV concept, which will most likely herald the replacement for the ageing Touareg.

Infiniti debuted its QX Sport Inspiration concept, which will materialise into a replacement for either the QX50 or QX70.

And a number of companies created long-wheelbase versions of cars to satisfy the Chinese demand for LWB variants, including the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Audi A4 and the Jaguar XF.

There's now a long time between drinks, with the next major motor show not happening until the Paris Motor Show, which begins on September 29. For all the latest news leading up to Mondial de l'Automobile 2016, keep an eye on GoAuto.com.au.

Auto China Beijing is now only a week away and we're starting to get a glimpse of what is going to be shown at China's premier auto show.

Mazda will show off its new CX-4 compact SUV, previously shown at Frankfurt as the Koeru concept. It will be of particular interest to the Chinese audience as it will be sold as a China-only model for the foreseeable future.

Infiniti will show off its QX Sport Inspiration concept, which will preview a new model in Infiniti's range, possibly the QX70 or QX50.

And Volkswagen will reveal what is likely to be the replacement for its Touareg large SUV, which will feature for the first time a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The Beijing Motor Show is back for 2016. Occurring biennially, Beijing trades places on the motorshow calendar with the Shanghai show, with both operating under the banner of Auto China.

Beijing is sure to attract a lot of attention from major car brands, particularly bullish Europeans wanting a piece of the Chinese pie, and 2013's Beijing show witnessed the reveal of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and Bentley Bentayga among others.
