The 104th Chicago Auto Show kicked off on February 8, 2012 at the city's vast McCormick Place complex.

Several world and North American debuts have taken place, with nearly 1,000 different vehicles in total on display.

The show is the oldest on the North American continent and was first staged in 1901 - right at the infancy of all things automotive.

The show claims to be the largest of its kind in North America, and will be spread over 1.2 million square feet of floor space in 2012.

Stars of the show include the Kia Track'ster concept coupe - based on the Soul - and a coupe variant of the Hyundai Elantra.

Also revealed was a subtly-facelifted Nissan 370Z coupe, while a diesel-powered Volkswagen Beetle is also expected to emerge.
