Detroit show: Toyota revises LandCruiser

Tweaked beast: The facelifted Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series will hit Australian dealerships from March this year.

Minor facelift coming for Toyota’s iconic go-anywhere 4x4 LandCruiser wagon

11 Jan 2012

TOYOTA has massaged its LandCruiser full-size SUV with a series of modifications that include a minor facelift front and rear, better safety and more comfort.

The revised LandCruiser appeared at the Detroit auto show this week and will arrive in local dealerships from March.

The 200 Series II 4x4 icon brandishes a different grille, bumpers and – on US models but not as yet confirmed for Australia – high intensity discharge (HID) low-beam headlights with LED daytime-running lights.

Larger front and rear mudguards, new-look 18-inch alloys and redesigned side mirrors and tail-light lenses complete the exterior update, in an effort to convey an “advanced and rugged” theme, according to Toyota.

Off-roaders are likely to appreciate the new ‘Multi-terrain Select’ system that dials in wheel slip control to match the terrain, giving the big Toyota even greater go-anywhere mobility.

A new five-speed CRAWL Control with Off-Road Turn Assist feature also helps make tackling rough terrain easier by moving the vehicle forward or in reverse in one of five low-speed settings.

A new ‘Trailer Sway Control’ function employs the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help counteract forces, helping to keep the rig under control at speed.

More information on the Australian market models will be released in the coming weeks.
