Geneva show: Audi teases Q4 e-tron concept

All-electric Audi Q4 e-tron small SUV to materialise as production model by 2021

14 Feb 2019

AUDI has presented a series of design sketches for its latest e-tron all-electric model, the Q4 e-tron coupe-style small SUV, that is set to break cover at the Geneva motor show next month.

The German car-maker said the Q4 e-tron concept will be become as a production model in either late 2020 or early 2021, joining the e-tron, e-tron Sportback and e-tron GT as other future pure-electric Audi models.

Design-wise, the Q4 e-tron shares some similarities with the e-tron Sportback concept first revealed at the 2017 Shanghai motor show, which also featured a coupe-like silhouette and sported a similar front fascia.

However, the e-tron Sportback is a similar size to the Q7/Q8 large SUVs, while the Q4 e-tron will play in the small segment.

No concrete details have been given as to what the Q4 e-tron will feature, however, some preliminary design sketches give an idea of what it will look like.

From the front, the Q4 e-tron features a broad grille reminiscent of an internal-combustion vehicle, flanked by slim, trapezoidal LED headlights that give the small SUV a menacing look.

Large lower air intakes give it a sporty and athletic stance, aided by the huge rims with low-profile tyres.

An illuminated ‘e-tron’ logo on the front splitter gives away the Q4 e-tron’s electric underpinnings and is also emblazoned on the side sills.

A thick C-pillar and roof-mounted spoiler accentuate the Q4’s coupe body style, while the rear end still remains a mystery.

One sketch gives a look into how the Q4 e-tron’s interior may shape up, with a slightly more angular take on the current Audi interior design language.

A large infotainment screen integrated into the dash and a digital instrument cluster feature, while the centre console controls and air-conditioning cluster look to be operated with haptic buttons on a gloss-black panel.

A flat-bottomed steering wheel evokes a sporty feel, while the two-tone beige-and-blue interior scheme frames the angular air vents, dashboard and door trims.

No details have been given on its powertrain, including power outputs, battery capacity and driving range.

More details on the design study will be made available at the Geneva motor show next month.
