2017 Auto China, ShanghaiShanghai to host motor show for world's largest automotive market26 Apr 2017 By JUSTIN HILLIARD and ROBBIE WALLIS in SHANGHAI That's a wrap! The doors in Shanghai have been closed and Auto China is over for another year. The reveals came quickly in the last week, with several new models and concept cars being rolled out at the event. BMW moved to fill a hole in its M4 line-up that not many knew existed, with the CS arriving as a bridge between the 'pedestrian' Competition and hardcore GTS variants. Outputs rise by 7kW/50Nm, while a number of cosmetic upgrades help signal the M4 CS' track/road warrior credentials. Mercedes Benz updated its S-Class with even more kit, helping shore up its status as a technological tour de force. Significantly, an in-line six-cylinder engine now returns to the German brand's passenger car range before it later filters down to other models. Lexus gave its NX mid-size SUV a nip-and-tuck facelift too, alongside promises that both ride and handling will be much improved over the outgoing model. An onslaught of Chinese product was also on the menu as several bound-for-Australia vehicles made their debuts at the show including the LDV D90 and T60, as well as the MG ZS and Haval H6. There were plenty of show cars on the stands with the Jeep Yuntu, Geely MPV, Chevrolet FNR-X, Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan and Volkswagen ID Crozz all going on display. Auto China will return to Beijing next year before alternating back to Shanghai again in 2019. Until then, stay tuned to GoAuto.com.au as we gear up towards covering the Frankfurt motor show in September. 18/04/2017 We are now on the eve of the Shanghai motor show for 2017. Teasers for new models and concepts are once again in an abundance this year, with few breaking cover before the official event. However, we can expect to see Audi pull the covers from its e-tron Sportback concept that will signal another step towards the future of electrified powetrains. Similarly, MG is looking to relaunch its sportscar efforts with the all-electric E-motion concept, which the Chinese-owned British brand has hinted at thoroughly in the lead up to the show. The electric theme will continue with Skoda as it prepares to debut the Vision E concept, which is seemingly yet another coupe-SUV crossover. Shanghai will have an Aussie twist as LDV will reveal its D90 SUV which incidentally has already made its international debut on the New South Wales coast as part of local engineering efforts. Keep an eye on GoAuto.com.au as we bring you all the latest news from Shanghai when the event officially gets underway tomorrow. 20/12/2017 Shanghai will take the reins from Beijing as the alternating host of Auto China in 2017, with China’s biggest auto event sure to showcase a number of new local and international cars. Last year’s edition saw a number of SUVs revealed, including the Mazda CX-4, Infiniti QX Sport Inspiration, and the Volkswagen T-Prime concept that will preview the next-gen Touareg. As for local models, a number of cars were made into long-wheelbase versions, including the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW X1 and Jaguar XF.
