SUBARU has unveiled its fourth concept bearing the Viziv nameplate, this time in the form of a performance-honed sedan that appears to give a glimpse at the future of the sporty WRX hero.

The Japanese manufacturer says the Viziv series “embodies the brand’s vision for the future of making cars that deliver Enjoyment and Peace of Mind to its customers”, with the latest iteration hinting at the direction that Subaru’s performance models are heading.

While not directly referencing the WRX, the Viziv Performance concept “draws on iconic models symbolising superior Subaru driving performance”, while also employing Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout and boxer engine configuration.

The latest iteration of Subaru’s EyeSight system has been fitted to the Viziv equipped with next-generation advanced driver assistance and autonomous technologies to aid on-road driving, which are due to arrive in 2020.

Measuring 4630mm long, 1950mm wide and 1430mm high, the Viziv concept is 35mm longer, 155mm wider but 45mm lower than the current WRX, with a number of design cues that appear to be a nod to the production model.

The front fascia is shaped by C-shaped LED headlights present on all previous Viziv concepts as well as the current WRX, while the front bumper is dominated by a three-part lower air intake that gives the concept an aggressive, sporty look.

Also reminiscent of the WRX is the Viziv’s bonnet scoop, as is the hexagonal front grille split in half by a horizontal line that runs through the Subaru badge.

The car’s muscular appearance is enhanced by the addition of black wheelarch flares, which surround black 20-inch wheels.

A sloping C-pillar gives way to the Viziv’s rear, which also features a C-shaped lighting signature for the tail-lights and angular styling elements.

Bulging rear quarters taper into the boot which feature a subtle lip spoiler, aggressive rear bumper with diffuser and angular quad tailpipes reminiscent of the Lexus RC F coupe.

Carbon-fibre is also used throughout the bumpers, fenders and roof, adding to the vehicle’s sporty credentials.

The last Viziv concept to be revealed was the Viziv-7 seven-seat SUV from last year’s LA motor show, preceded by the Viziv-2 from the 2014 Geneva show, which revealed a small crossover that would sit underneath the production XV in size.

Debuting the Viziv name was a concept from the previous year’s Geneva show, which also came in an SUV/crossover body style.
