Jeep drops Avenger price ahead of arrival

Incoming Jeep Avenger BEV price cut trimmed, now sneaking in at under $50,000

6 Sep 2024

JEEP has avenged its customers, with a pre-launch price drop for its incoming Avenger compact-SUV model, now slotting in at a competitive $49,990 (down from $53,990) for the base model.

Expected to arrive at dealerships from September – so, now – the model is available in Longitude, Limited and Summit grades, each separated by trim, interior specification and technology.

All three models are built atop the Stellantis e-CMP2 platform, using a single ‘M3’ electric motor that produces 115kW/260Nm and a 54kWh battery. A light tare weight of 1520kg (the Summit weighs more) and slippery 0.33Cd allows for claimed average consumption of 15.6kWh per 100km, good for a total range of 396km.

The Avenger can be DC fast-charged with up to 100kW of juice, allowing it to go from 20 to 80 per cent charge in around 24 minutes, while AC charging will take around eight hours.

Inside, all models score a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless smartphone connectivity, plus a 7.0-inch digital dash for Longitude and 10.25-inch dash display for Limited and Summit grades.

Jeep’s full suite of ADAS technology is included, with vulnerable road-user protection, automatic parking and collision avoidance features like AEB.

Jeep claims the front-wheel drive model is still off-road capable, which we assume means the odd dirt road fling, fitting its Selec-Terrain and hill descent systems to the vehicle – the first time they have done so for a model that does not drive all four wheels.

A 200mm ground clearance, and respect approach and departure angles of 20 and 30 degrees respectively, somewhat back Jeep’s claim that the Avenger is off-road suitable, but crossover EVs like the Subaru Solterra offer a superior 212mm. In other words, 200mm is not particularly new for the electric SUV segment.

Jeep also recently slashed the price of its slow-selling Gladiator range, reducing prices by up to $17,250 in a bid to bolster sales of the ute model.

The offer ends in September, with the range-topping Rubicon available for just $70,000 driveaway – down from $87,250.

Jeep is set to unveil an updated Gladiator range mid-next year; however, it is unlikely to be electric and will instead mirror the recently updated Wrangler mode.
