Jeep slashes $20K from Gladiator range

Insurance and resale values set to plummet as Jeep cuts over $17K from Gladiator ute

22 Jul 2024

JEEP Australia has announced price cuts of between $14,250 and $17,250 from its slow-selling Gladiator ute, which is now available from $64,000 drive-away.

While the news might come as music to the ears of prospective Gladiator buyers, the decision will certainly affect current owners’ insurance and resale values… wiping off close to $20,000 from the market value of their vehicle in the blink of an eye.

Until the end of September, Jeep Australia will offer the Gladiator Night Eagle from $64,000 drive-away (-$14,250) and the range-topping Rubicon from $70,000 drive-away (-$17,250). The offer applies to MY22 and MY23 plated stock, including demonstrator models.

Year-to-date sales of the Gladiator are down by 63.8 per cent following last year’s sales slide of 42 per cent.

Just 169 examples of the Jeep Gladiator have been sold to the end of June 2024, the American-made utility struggling to keep pace with segment leaders including the Toyota HiLux (24,980) and Ford Ranger (30,620).

As sales slow to a trickle, it is hoped a facelifted Gladiator will bolster model sales.

Jeep is set to update its Gladiator towards the middle of next year, bringing changes familiar to those of the recently updated (and cheaper) Wrangler.

In what will be the first update in five years, the Gladiator will receive adaptive cruise control. AEB, curtain airbags, in-glass antenna, larger 12.3-inch infotainment array (8.4 inches previously) running Jeep’s Uconnect 5 software, a new-look seven-slot grille, revised alloy wheel designs, and 12-way powered driver seat adjustment.

Power is expected to continue to be provided by Jeep’s 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar petrol unit, and not the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol offering found under the bonnet of the related Wrangler. The V6 develops 209kW and 347Nm and is paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The latest price cut comes just weeks after Jeep Australia announced a $28,000 reduction in the price of its slow-selling Grand Cherokee SUV.

That announcement saw prices slashed across both five- and seven-seat Grand Cherokee model ranges, to begin from just $64,450 plus on-road costs.
