News - Aston MartinAston Martin for saleFord gets ready to sell its boutique Aston Martin brand - but not Volvo, Jag or Land Rover8 Sep 2006 By TERRY MARTIN THE Ford Motor Co announced last week it intended to sell all, or a portion of, its "prized" prestige British brand, Aston Martin. "As part of our ongoing strategic review, we have determined that Aston Martin may be an attractive opportunity to raise capital and generate value," Ford chairman and chief executive Bill Ford said in a statement. "Since Aston Martin’s dealer network, product architecture and size are distinctly different from other Ford brands, it is the most logical and capital-smart divestiture choice."Responding to reports that FoMoCo was considering a sell-off of Jaguar and Land Rover (both of which have former Ford Australia boss Geoff Polites at the helm), Mr Ford said: "Regarding our other Premier Automotive Group brands, we’ve made no decisions, as our review of strategic alternatives continues. "However, we continue to be encouraged by Jaguar’s progress and by the strength and consumer appeal of the Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo product line-ups." |
