Chrysler Chery picks

Micro: A Chery model that could be rebadged as a Dodge.

Chinese-built Chery cars could eventually be sold in Australia via the Dodge brand

9 Oct 2006

DAIMLERCHRYSLER AG may sell cars made by China’s Chery Automobile Co Ltd in the United States through its Chrysler Group, according to Associated Press.

DaimlerChrysler is said to be close to signing a deal with the Chinese company about licensing its small, economical cars for sale under the Dodge brand in the US as demand for its SUVs and larger models wanes.

DaimlerChrysler chief executive Dieter Zetsche indicated his interest in Chery last month when he opened the first production plant for Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler sedans in China.

The company has said it may export its Chinese-built vehicles in order to cut labour costs, which are one-18th those of US workers.
