Masers and Citroens recalled

Safety check: Citroen is recalling several of its models, including the C4 Picasso, to check the engine relay units.

Maseratis and Citroens recalled over loose ball-joint nuts and faulty ECUs

26 Jan 2009

ATECO Automotive has recalled 560 Citroens and Maseratis due to faulty engine control units (ECU) and loose ball-joint fasteners respectively.

The recall, involving a total of 70 Citroen C2, C3, C3 Pluriel, C4, C4 Picasso, C5, C6 and Berlingo vehicles, was announced on January 15 – the same day Ateco recalled 490 Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo cars.

In the case of Citroen, Ateco said affected vehicles may have been fitted with a non-conforming engine relay unit, which may become damaged over time and cause operational faults with some equipment.

A similar national recall involving Maserati models was issued because the ball-joint fastening nuts of the suspension levers may not have been correctly tightened to the correct nominal torque.

center image “This may cause the nuts to loosen with consequent steering wheel vibration, a growing metallic noise and progressive loss of driving precision during manoeuvres,” said Ateco’s recall notice.

The importer of Citroen and Maserati vehicles in Australia said no problems had been reported by local customers in relation to either condition, and that in the case of Maserati any affected vehicle should already have been rectified.

Ateco Automotive public affairs manager Edward Rowe said: “This is something that’s checked anyway as part of the pre-delivery process.

“But because there’s a safety issue we run the standard recall and all will recheck all affected vehicles.”

Ateco will contact the owners of all affected vehicles.
