New Holden boss confirms interest in small car production

10 Jun 2008

HOLDEN chief Mark Reuss confirmed last week that the company was investigating local production of a small car, following the revelation last month from General Motors Asia Pacific president boss Nick Reilly that such a plan was feasible longer-term.

“We are always looking for additional product opportunities to build and manufacture locally,” said Mr Reuss. “While right now we make a large rear-wheel drive sedan, we have a lot of opportunity to do other different product offerings if we choose to do that in Australia.

“We have to be competitive here to do it. We are, so those discussions are part of our future product planning activity.”

Ford Australia starts building the Focus small car at Broadmeadows in 2011.
