Recall woes hit Jaguar, Citroen

Cat call-back: Jaguar Australia has recalled 130 diesel X-Types over a possible issue with the cruise control system that could see it jam on while in use.

Potential cruise control issue sees Jaguar recall X-Type mid-sizer

30 Aug 2011

JAGUAR Australia has issued a recall on 130 diesel-powered X-Type 2.2D models because of a potential problem that could cause the cruise control system to jam on.

Software for the cruise control may contain an error which could disable the system, with the most likely scenario being a failure of the cruise control to switch on at all.

However, Jaguar admits it is possible in extreme cases for this error state to occur while the cruise control is engaged and the car is at speed, in which case the system cannot be switched off via either the cancel button or the car’s brakes.

Jaguar Australia brand manager Kevin Goult told GoAuto that the best course of action in such an extreme case would be to “put it into neutral and steer to the side of the road”.

The brake and steering function would continue to work as normal in neutral, and turning the ignition off and on again will reset the cruise function.

Mr Goult said there have been no reports of any accidents due to the problem - which applies to global markets - and that the issue was discovered by Jaguar internally.

Jaguar will contact owners of affected vehicles, advising them to contact their dealer for an engine management software update, which takes around 20 minutes.

All affected vehicles were registered between 2006 and 2010 and occupy the VIN range E65409 to J63579.

Meanwhile, Citroen Australia has recalled a small number of C3 1.6-litre HDI turbo-diesel models over a possible fault with the engine’s air unit fixing bracket.

The recall notice published by the Australian Competition Consumer Commission (ACCC) states that the bracket may break due to vibrations, in which case some surrounding engine components could be affected.

The recall affects 18 examples of the small hatch in Australia. Owners of these affected vehicles will be contacted and should see their local dealer for an inspection and replacement of the bracket.
