Mitsubishi Australia announces plans for new headquarters at Adelaide airport

5 Nov 2018

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has announced it will build its new national headquarters in Adelaide, with the new site at the airport set to open for business from late 2020.

Ending months of speculation, the announcement reaffirms the company’s commitment to the City of Churches, which has been the Australian home of Mitsubishi for nearly four decades.

The company considered moving its headquarters interstate, but opted to remain in Adelaide partly in order to retain its local workforce.

Moving its head office from the current location in Clovelly Park to the city’s airport would allow the company to meet its future business requirements and better support its interstate dealers and staff, according to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation COO Trevor Mann.

Present at the announcement was South Australian premier Steven Marshall MP, who on behalf of the state government offered a $2 million grant to MMAL to assist in the construction and fit-out of the new facility.

Mr Marshall said the government was delighted about MMAL’s decision to remain headquartered in Adelaide.

“South Australia has been home to Mitsubishi for over 38 years and in that time has contributed significantly to our state and likewise, South Australia has been a major supporter of Mitsubishi,” he said.

“This decision is a significant vote of confidence in South Australians and the State Government looks forward to continuing a productive and positive partnership with Mitsubishi.”

The facility will be located at the entrance to Adelaide airport, with construction set to commence in 2019.
