All top 10 brands now sport at least five years of warranty after Nissan ups period

AS THE last holdout in the country’s top 10 brands, Nissan Australia’s move to increase its warranty period to five years/unlimited kilometres means all high-selling marques will offer at least half a decade of aftersales coverage.

Moving up from a three-year/100,000km period, Nissan’s new warranty covers only private purchases, but extends across its entire product line-up from the all-electric Leaf launching in August to the performance-focused GT-R supercar.

Nissan Australia now matches offerings from the top-selling Toyota, Mazda and Hyundai, as well as Ford, Volkswagen, Honda and Holden.

However, while Mitsubishi also provides a five-year warranty period, its vehicles are only covered up to 100,000km.

Of the top 10 brands, Kia still retains the aftersales crown with a seven-year/unlimited kilometre offering.

Across the industry, only the premium brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Alfa Romeo and Volvo that maintain three-year warranties.

Nissan Australia managing director Stephen Lester said an increased warranty period will give prospective buyers more peace of mind when considering one of its vehicles.

“Five-year warranty provides our customers with both confidence in the Nissan brand and our vehicles,” he said.

“Nissan is committed to delivering the best total ownership experience, and whether it’s sales, service or finance, warranty plays an important role in delivering complete customer satisfaction.”

Last year, Nissan Australia finished eighth on the overall sales charts with 57,688 new registrations, however figures in the first two months of 2019 have slipped 19.3 per cent year-on-year to 7726.
