Rimac Nevera smashes Nurburgring EV record

All-electric hypercar beats Tesla’s Model S Plaid by an astonishing 20 seconds

23 Aug 2023

CROATIAN driver Martin Kodrić has piloted the all-electric Rimac Nevera to a new Nürburgring EV lap record, smashing the previous best time, set by a Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package, by an astonishing 20 seconds.

The 1407kW EV hypercar posted an officially verified 7:05.293 lap time, nearing the track’s outright production car record of 6:35.183 set by a Mercedes-AMG One. The Nevera set the lap on road-legal Michelin Cup 2R tyres, adding another feather to its impressive bow of speed records.

Earlier this year, the Croatian hypercar clocked a 0-400-0km/h time of just 29.93 seconds and recorded a GPS-checked top speed of 415km/h, though customer delivered vehicles are electronically capped to a more modest 353km/h.

The sold-out Nevera –which already has some 20 records to its name – is also the fastest car to ever ascend the Goodwood Hillclimb, crossing the tape with a physics-defying time of 49.32 seconds.

The staggeringly quick acceleration times of the Nevera include a 0-100km/h time of 1.81 seconds, a 0-200km/h time of 4.42 seconds and a 0-300km/h time of 9.22 seconds.

To place those numbers in some kind of perspective, a Boeing 737-800 needs a minimum speed of 250km/h to become airborne, a figure that takes 30 seconds to achieve at sea level.

“We had challenging weather conditions during our practice sessions this week and have chosen what seems like one of the hottest days on track this summer to set a lap time,” said Mr Kodrić.

“However, a 7:05.298 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife is commendable. The fact that the Nevera can achieve this kind of speed on track, when it has been developed to be a comfortable hyper GT for the road, is what makes it so special.”

Rimac’s hard-charging Nevera delivers a whopping 2368Nm of torque which is distributed via four-wheel torque vectoring for precise traction at all speeds. Company CEO, Mate Rimac, said technologies such as these are part of what makes the Nevera so devastatingly fast, adding that there are more records in Rimac’s sights.

“In many ways, the Nevera has reinvented the world of the hypercar, bringing new technologies, new abilities, and new levels of performance,” he said.

“But the simplest way we can demonstrate its capabilities is to go out and break records – and that is exactly what we’ve done in 2023 time and again.

“The Nevera Time Attack is a limited edition that celebrates the achievements of the past year, wearing bespoke livery inspired by the car that set each of them. Built in a series of 12, each has already been spoken for by customers keen to capture their very own part of performance car history.

“And it’s only August! So, there is plenty of time for more records to be broken.”

The Time Attack variant carries bespoke touches including a black Alcantara-trimmed cabin with stitching to complement the vehicle’s paint colour. Available hues include Rimac Racing Red, Stiniva E-Blue, Squadron Black, or bare carbon-fibre. Each vehicle is fitted with Vertex lightweight alloy wheels and features a ‘Time Attack 1 of 12’ plaque.

Pricing is on an “if you have to ask…” basis with estimates by those in the know set at $US2,200,000 ($A3.5m).
