New Amarok sales stronger than forecast

But longer than usual wait times likely for highly specified PanAmericana and Aventura variants

27 Sep 2023

VOLKSWAGEN Australia says sales of its second-generation Amarok are “stronger than forecast” with approximately 2500 examples delivered to the middle of September.

According to a statement issued by the German importer this week, sales of the models are on target for the first three months on the market, with strong production levels expected to continue to meet demand.

In fact, the only caveat placed on supply of the new-generation Amarok appears to centre around what Volkswagen Australia refers to as “widespread shipping delays”. It says that, assuming the worst, some vehicles slated for delivery by the end of 2023 may not arrive until early in the new year.

As has been noted by other utility importers, including most recently Ford and Toyota, more highly specified Amarok variants are proving the most popular – and subsequently facing the longest wait times.

On average, Volkswagen Australia says there is a “six- to nine-month wait” for PanAmericana and Aventura variants. The importer says it is working to secure additional production.

Good supply of Amarok Style TDI600 – named as the most popular grade and engine combination with around 50 per cent of all sales to date – is forming in the wake of the shortage of PanAmericana and Aventura variants, though “by far the strongest supply for the rest of 2023” is expected to come from the Life TDI500 and Style TDI500, Volkswagen Australia says.

GoAuto understands the TDI500 duo are in strong supply and available for immediate delivery.

“The all-new Amarok has been extremely well received both by the media and the buying public. Demand is quickly exceeding supply for the dual-flagship PanAmericana and Aventura, which have been in even stronger demand than forecast, while as forecast the Style TDI600 is the top seller overall,” said Volkswagen Australia in a statement.

“These are book-ended by the value-packed Core TDI405, Life TDI500 and Style TDI500 that have quickly ramped up in terms of supply and the latter two will from this month be by far the easiest Amaroks to get into quickly.

“The Life and Style are aimed directly at mainstream competition with a cut-above level of standard equipment for highly competitive pricing.”

As stock may vary by region, interested buyers should contact their preferred Volkswagen dealership for stock availability of the variant of their choosing.
