The fourth-generation Skoda Superb received Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and new drivetrains.

It represented a big step up from its predecessor and introduced a sophisticated safety inventory, comprehensive comfort features and a bigger body with a more spacious cabin.

Two body styles – a liftback sedan and a wagon – remained but the drivetrains were more performance-oriented. All engines were 2.0-litre four-cylinder units but had more power with 162kW and 206kW for the petrols and 140kW for the diesel.

The all-new body was wider by 47mm to 1864mm longer by 28mm to 4861mm (sedan) and to 4856mm for the wagon with a 6mm increase in height to 1468mm and an 80mm extension to the wheelbase to 2841mm for both sedan and wagon.

Skoda dropped the Attraction and Elegance grades and introduced two trim grades – Superb and Superb 4x4 – with standard features including 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, front heated seats, satellite navigation and Smart Link connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard safety equipment included nine airbags, bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, City Emergency Braking, driver fatigue detection and tyre pressure monitor.
