The 1984 900 range boasted worthwhile improvements, mostly to cabin space, comfort, engine performance and efficiency. Small trim and specification changes also occurred.
The new 130kW Aero S 16-valve turbo three-door hatchback model from mid-’85 went on to become a period icon.
In 1986 mandatory unleaded fuel saw the base power output drop to 81kW, while the Aero’s plummeted to 118kW.
By mid-’86 the larger 9000 series began to supplant the higher-end 900 models in Saab’s line-up.
