Ford went for the Mustang look again with the handsome XB Falcon, ditching the XA’s fussy W-shape grille for a cleaner plastic item incorporating the 1971 Pony Car’s aggressive snout.
Larger tail-lights, smaller bumpers, a high-beam flasher/indicator stalk, standard disc brakes, inertia-reel seatbelts and improved ventilation were other XB improvements.
And the GT – with "only" 254kW/515Nm of 5.7-litre V8 power - was in its final phase as a permanent Falcon model for the time being. Using either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission, colour-key bumpers give the last of the '70s Falcon GT away.
The XC Fairmont GXL from August 1976 replaced it.
