KQ Laser

This is the last of the Laser series. Ford added a passenger airbag to the GLXi’s specification, while the LXi now included a CD player and immobiliser.

Notably, the R became the SR and gained the 92kW 1.8L engine, while a new 98kW twin-cam 2.0L engine, sports suspension, anti-lock brakes and sports instrumentation mark out the SR2 series.

Sales rose slightly but by early 2002 Ford Australia decided to replace the once all-conquering Laser with the European Focus.
