More trim changes inside and redesigned “swirl” style alloy wheels were added to the Probe. Production in the USA ceased during ’97, with sales drying up locally by early ’98.

The Cougar, a similarly sized and priced four-seater hatchback sports car, replaced the Probe in late 1999. Also US-sourced, the Cougar was based on the 1995-2000 Ford Mondeo.
