Kia Rio

Fourth-gen Rio

1 Jan 2017

KIA launched its fourth-generation in January 2017 with increased safety, expanded infotainment system and Australian-tuned suspension.

It had a high-strength steel body that was 15mm longer and 5mm lower with a 10mm increase in wheelbase to 2580mm compared with its predecessor, which increased passenger room and boot space by 13 per cent to 325 litres. Kia dropped the 1.6-litre engine, carrying over the 74kW/133Nm 1.4-litre aspirated petrol engine and a choice of a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic rated at 5.6L/100km and 6.2L/100km respectively.

External changes included a new family grille, thinner and more vertical C-pillars for better rear visibility, a longer bonnet and a more angular body design. Inside was a redesigned dashboard with a seven-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, USB ports front and rear, and keyless entry.

There were three trim levels - S, Si and SLi - with standard equipment in all models including reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and automatic headlights. The S has 15-inch steel wheels, the Si has 15-inch alloys and the SLi has 16-inch alloys.
