Kia Sorento

Fourth-generation Sorento

1 Oct 2017

Kia facelifted its seven-seat Sorento large SUV in October 2017, giving the family hauler its first update since the all-new model arrived in mid 2015.

The Korean car-maker made a number of subtle improvements to its largest SUV, while slightly increasing prices and dropping the former range-topping Platinum variant from the line-up.

Improvements included the addition of more active safety features, ride and handling tweaks and the replacement of the old six-speed automatic transmission in favour of an in-house-developed eight-speed unit.

The old 3.3-litre V6 powering front-drive variants was swapped out in favour of a larger 3.5-litre unit, resulting in a 7kW/18Nm power increase, bringing the total output to 206kW/336Nm.

All-wheel-drive variants were powered by the same 147kW/441Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder from the previous model, with fuel economy improving by 0.6 litres per 100km to 7.2L/100km thanks to the new eight-speed auto.

Head- and tail-light, bumper and grille designs were revised slightly, while more soft touch plastics were added to the interior.

Standard equipment included a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while SLi and GT-Line variants gained a ten-speaker harman/kardon sound system and 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster display.
