Festive season family torture-test of VW Amarok V6 reveals more of a big boy’s toy
6 Mar 2017
A PRICE tag of $67,990 plus on-road costs makes the Volkswagen Amarok TDI550 V6 Ultimate Australia’s most expensive dual-cab ute outside of the heavy-duty Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series and various huge North American trucks that have to be converted to right-hand drive.
Its closest competitor, the Ford Ranger Wildtrack is $6200 less expensive, leaving plenty of change for the various customisations these vehicles often undergo.
The high price comes with similarly high expectations, and our launch drive in November 2016 found the Amarok V6 to justify the hype.
But an entire festive period spent with an Amarok V6 revealed a great deal about this powerful and luxurious yet rugged and versatile vehicle: As a family car it’s fallible but as a leather-lined adventure machine it’s unstoppable.
