Future models - BMW - X5 - 4.8i M SportFirst look: BMW dials M for X5BMW waves the M-division wand over its MkII X5, but where's the extra performance?4 Jun 2007 BMW has launched an M-tuned version of its new X5 in the UK, and it’s headed our way in early 2008. That’s right, the replacement for the superseded X5 4.8is is the new flagship of the second-generation X5 range, as well as being as close as BMW will go to producing a fully-fledged "MX5". Released in Britain last week, the BMW X5 4.8i M Sport is based on the X5 4.8i and features the same 261kW/475Nm 4.8-litre petrol V8 featuring bi-VANOS and Valvetronic valve control. It propels the X5-M to the same 240km/h and to 100km/h in the same 6.5 seconds. Claimed combined average fuel consumption remains the same too, at 12.5L/100km, while BMW claims its average Co2 emissions of 299g/km better that of rivals from Porsche and Audi. In fact, the only differences are cosmetic and include 19-inch V-spoke M light alloy wheels, "Sports" suspension, an "M Aerodynamic" bodykit, "Sports" seats, matt aluminium side window frame surrounds, high-gloss "Shadowline" roof rails, Anthracite headlining and an M leather steering wheel. A 20-inch V-spoke M alloy wheel is also available. In the UK, the X5 4.8i M Sport will be available in six colours: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Carbon Black, Monaco Blue, Space Grey, Titanium Silver. Nevada leather trim is standard and is available in Black, Grey, Beige and Saddle Brown. Similarly, Dark Walnut interior trim is standard, but customers can specify Brushed Aluminium, Dark Bamboo or Light Poplar at no extra cost. The M Sport treatment is also expected to be available for both the X5 3.0d turbo-diesel, which was released alongside the 4.8i in April, and the 3.0si petrol variant, which arrives this month. In the UK, the M Sport version carries an $A8000 price premium over the X5 4.8i SE.
