Geneva show: Citroen goes touring

Here in August: All-new C5 Tourer joins sedan on sale here in August.

Citroen debuts the wagon version of its new C5 at Geneva, dubbed simply the Tourer

7 Mar 2008

CITROEN'S redesigned C5 sedan broke cover at the Brussels motor show in mid-January, and now the five-door wagon version has emerged at the Geneva motor show.

Dubbed simply the Tourer (instead of Estate, as was its predecessor's name), the new C5 wagon will arrive in Australia simultaneously with the sedan in August.

Looking far more like Citoren's range-topping C6 sedan flagship than its slab-sided forebear, the new C5 Tourer has a 65mm-longer wheelbase than before and is therefore said to offer improved cabin space, as well as big advances in noise, vibration and harshness.

It also adopts technology from throughout the Citroen family, including Hydractive 3 Plus suspension (from the C6) and a fixed steering wheel hub (C4).

New-to-C5 technology includes a lane departure warning system, bi-Xenon adaptive lighting and front seats with a power-adjustable upper seatback and, for the driver only, a massage function.

Seven airbags will be standard in the C5 Tourer, which will come with the option of up to nine, and which is expected to borrow its petrol and diesel engines from the three-box model upon which it is based.

Citroen also used the Geneva show last week to reveal its Berlingo MPV, a mini people-mover to be positioned below the brand's Picasso by mid-year, based on its light commercial platform.
