Ford Everest to be revealed March 1

FORD will reveal its next-generation Everest via its social media channels on March 1. 

The Blue Oval, which released a teaser image and -video today, said its Ranger-based SUV would feature “adventure ready capability, enhanced safety and premium interior comfort”. It will be revealed by Ford’s chief platform engineer Ian Foston and design director Max Wolff next month.

“Our intention... was to communicate the capability of the next-gen Everest with a robust exterior design. As for the (new model’s) interior, we created a sanctuary with premium appointments in which customers could feel relaxed, no matter what was going on outside,” Mr Wolff said.

Today’s teaser image and video is the second drip-feed instalment from Ford, which released a single camouflaged photo of its Ranger-based SUV to the media late last year (see links below).

The third-generation Everest shares the Ranger’s prominent grille and C-clamp headlight treatment, pronounced wheel arches, and larger tail-lights with wraparound LED accents. 

In Australia, Ford’s outgoing second-gen Everest has sold strongly in its segment (Large SUV under $70k). Its rivals include the Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner. 

It is expected the new Everest will be offered with four- and six-cylinder turbo-diesel powerplants, which will be paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard. It is also feasible that the independent front- and solid rear-axle – with Watt’s linkage – suspension will be retained with all-wheel drive models offering Ford’s multi-mode Terrain Management system.

While details have yet to be revealed, it’s understood the new Everest’s cabin will again offer seating for seven across three rows, but will feature a more upmarket décor with enhanced technology items. A fully digital instrument panel is tipped to be included alongside a 12.0-inch SYNC-4 touchscreen infotainment array.

The setup also incorporates mobile internet connectivity and a new off-road display mode that provides driveline, steering angle, pitch and roll angles and other info. A 360-degree camera and the ability to start, check various functions of-, as well as lock/unlock the vehicle via the FordPass Connect mobile app will probably be carried over from the new Ranger.

Ford Australia plans to launch the new Ranger towards the middle of 2022, by which point the new Everest would have been fully revealed. It’s likely the seven-seater will arrive here soon after its ute sibling; specification and price info will be revealed closer to the launch date.
