Details firm on Jaecoo J5 and J7 range

Luxury Chinese marque shares more details on SUV duo, due here early next year

6 Nov 2024

JAECOO has announced further details of its Australian portfolio with early specification and equipment inclusions for its Medium segment SUV, the J7, revealed this week.

In addition, the luxury Chinese marque has outlined information related to its second Australian-bound model, the J5, which like the J7 is expected in Australia early next year.

Speaking on the J7, Jaecoo Australia chief executive officer Lewis Lu said the model will offer seating for up to five adults in a luxurious cabin that boasts a large, vertically oriented touchscreen, cutting-edge design and forward-thinking technologies.

“As Australia’s first taste of Jaecoo, the new J7 has an important role to play,” he stated.

“Boasting high levels of sophistication and performance – not to mention a modern yet classic design aesthetic – the J7 will appeal to customers who love the great outdoors but are not prepared to compromise on either comfort or standard specification.”

The Jaecoo J7 will be available in two- and all-wheel drive configuration and is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Output is rated at 137kW and 275Nm with drive via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Standard equipment sees the J7 fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels framing red-painted brake callipers, a 14.8-inch infotainment array, 360-degree camera system, automatic LED headlights, electric tailgate, front fog lights, power-adjustable front seats, rain-sensing wipers, a wireless device charging pad, and “several advanced safety features” including eight airbags.

Pricing for the J7 is yet to be confirmed.

In addition, Jaecoo will debut its Small segment SUV, the J5, in Australia next year, the model combining what it says is “clever technology, practicality, and comfort” in a package that will offer buyers “comfort and prestige”.

Like the larger J7, the J5 is characterised by assertive styling that combines “modern styling cues with rugged touches”. These include a prominent grille, slimline LED headlights, generous ground clearance, subtly pronounced wheel arches at the front, and a “refined bumper” and “upmarket lightbar incorporating tail-lights and the Jaecoo nameplate” at the rear.

Riding on all independent suspension, the Jaecoo J5 is said to offer a smooth and supple ride allowing occupants to enjoy standard equipment offerings such as a 13.2-inch infotainment array, panoramic sunroof, two-tone leather upholstery, and “specially extendable seats” aimed at “prioritising a healthy and comfortable experience for four-legged companions”.

The HVAC system also offers a unique filtration system aimed at keeping pet hair from the system.

While Jaecoo has not confirmed mechanical specifications for the J5, GoAuto understands the model shares its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain with the larger J7 – including the wet-type seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and choice of two- and all-wheel drive configurations.

Like the J7, the J5 is also understood to offer multiple driving modes and a towing capacity of up to 1250kg.

Jaecoo Australia said it will reveal additional J7 details related to specification and pricing closer to the on-sale date in Q1 2025, with local specification for the J5 yet to be finalised.
