Lambo teases next Murcielago

Carbon footprint: Next year's all-new Murcielago will feature carbon-fibre body panels and is expected to ride on a carbon-fibre chassis.

First teaser image of Lamborghini’s next-generation Murcielago emerges

NO, Lamborghini has not confirmed that its mould-breaking four-door Estoque super-sedan concept will enter production.

Instead, the Italian supercar brand has revealed the first of six teaser images of its next-generation Murcielago hyper-coupe, which will appear in concept guise at the Paris motor show on September 30.

The first image of the redesigned Lamborghini flagship was released with a one-line statement from the House of the Raging Bull: “Discover the way to the future of supersports cars.”

Expect five additional teaser images of the new Murcie concept to be revealed by the end of this month, before the final production version of the all-new model makes its global debut at next year’s Geneva motor show in March.

As part of the Volkswagen-owned brand’s drive to reduce weight and increase efficiency across its range, the next Murcielago is expected to be based on an exclusive new carbon-fibre composite chassis, with carbon-fibre also featuring in the new car’s bodywork, which can be seen in the first teaser shot.

Power is expected to come from a similarly new 7.0-litre V12 engine that is rumoured to produce more than 520kW – up substantially on the 471kW offered by the current model’s 6.5-litre V12 – but is unlikely to be matched with a dual-clutch automatic transmission like the one Ferrari now employs.

According to Autocar, the all-new Murcielago has a target weight of less than 1500kg (down from at least 1660kg) and should sprint to 100km/h in close to three seconds – down from 3.4 seconds for the existing model, which currently costs $889,000 in LP670 SV guise here.
