Geneva show: Pininfarina Battista revealed

AUTOMOBILI Pininfarina has made big claims with its all-electric Battista, calling the low-slung hypercar the most powerful Italian-built, road-legal vehicle of all time.

 

The numbers seem to stack up too, as it produces a wild 1416kW and 2300Nm from its four electric motors powering one wheel apiece.

 

A 120kWh battery pack sourced from Rimac Automobili allows for 450 kilometres of driving range, and an astonishing zero to 100km/h sprint time of less than 2.0 seconds.

 

It takes just 12.0 seconds to run from 0-300km/h, for a top speed of over 350km/h.

 

Strictly 150 Battistas will be hand-made in Italy, with units allocated for North America, Europe and Middle East/Asia.

 

A maximum of 50 cars will be allocated for each of the three aforementioned regions.

 

The pure electric hypercar takes on a full-carbon fibre monocoque chassis with carbon fibre body panels with aluminium reinforcements.

 

Bespoke 21-inch wheels are shod in Pirelli P Zero tyres, showcasing carbon-ceramic brakes with six piston callipers and 390mm rotors, front and rear.

 

The interior is upholstered in tan and black leather with chrome accents throughout, and also features LED ambient lighting and two large screens positioned on both sides of a flat-top and flat-bottomed sports steering wheel. 

 

Automobili Pininfarina chief executive officer Michael Perschke said that the Battista is the first of a new range of models.

 

“Today marks a significant step for the launch of a range of Pininfarina-branded cars beginning with the Pininfarina Battista, a car whose name alone fills us with pride,” he said.

 

“It will be the most powerful Italian-built sports car in history, the first luxury hypercar to be conceived in Italy and will deliver ground-breaking all-electric performance in a beautiful body.” 

 

Mr Perschke said that the brand will monitor to the success of the Battista electric vehicle (EV) to decide on its future product.

 

“We are looking at a number of segments, but ultimately a halo car proves that Automobili Pininfarina can be a pioneer for luxury EVs. 

 

“If the Battista is a success, then it proves that zero-emissions concepts at all levels of the car industry work.”
