Future models - Seat - IbizaFirst look: Seat goes to IbizaSeat shows the new face of its next Ibiza, based on a new Volkswagen Group platform6 May 2008 The new-generation Ibiza – the car that could lead the line-up in Australia, if Volkswagen decides to reintroduce the Spanish brand here – has been released in Europe, debuting a new VW Group small-car platform and introducing a new ‘geometric’ design theme expected to be spread across the Seat range. Seat said the use of new virtual processes enabled it to develop the new car in just 23 months - 14 months faster than the previous model. The initial engine range includes a 1.2-litre, 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol units and a 1.9 TDI, a 1.4 TDI and another 1.9 TDI will be added later. While the new car is significantly larger (including 99mm longer), Seat has managed to reduce its weight by around five per cent, or 47kg. In Europe, the Ibiza goes on sale with front and side airbags and electronic stability control as standard.
