James Stanford is a freelance motoring writer who contributes to GoAuto.com.au, GoAutoNews, Top Gear Australia magazine, the Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph and The Australian.
The son of an automotive engineer, James earned an Arts (Journalism) degree at Deakin University and started work at The Courier in Ballarat as a general reporter.
He followed his passion and joined the Herald Sun on the CarsGuide staff in 1999, helping develop the section and rising to the role of CarsGuide editor before going freelance in 2007.
James is a true motoring enthusiast and has owned a 1974 Datsun 240Z, the model he fell in love with as a child, for almost a decade. He also has a 1998 Subaru WRX rally car which he used to win the 2008 and 2009 Victorian Club Autocross Series.
Interested in all things powered, he also tinkers with a classic 1974 Suzuki dirt bike and has just gained his heavy vehicle (truck) licence.
