Hot Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm almost here

Alfa Romeo’s Giulia GTA and GTAm get huge price hikes over Quadrifoglio

24 May 2021

ALFA Romeo’s most potent and track-capable vehicle in decades is about to arrive in Australia, with the Giulia GTA and GTAm set to check into local showrooms from $268,000 and $288,000 plus on-road costs respectively.

Based on the already savage Giulia Quadrifoglio ($138,950), the GTA duo are powered by the familiar twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine, however power has been dialled up from 375kW to 397kW while torque has remained steady at 600Nm.

As before, drive is channelled exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The extra firepower mixes with a reduced kerb weight to slingshot the aggro sedans from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds; shaving 0.3s off the standard car’s time.

More than just a traffic light hero, Alfa’s engineers also set about fettling the Quadrifoglio’s underpinnings to make it as GTA’s capable as possible on the track, something the GTAm takes to another level over the GTA.

Upgrades to the latter include Carbon ceramic brake discs, Lexan rear window, Sparco sport seats, carbon-fibre roof and front end, widened front and rear tracks, single nut 20-inch wheels, Sauber Aero kit, carbon-fibre rear diffuser, central Akrapovic exhaust and Alfa’s DNA Pro drive mode system now with ‘Race’ mode – launch control is also featured as per the Quadrifoglio.

The GTAm meanwhile ups the ante with an even more aggressive aero kit, carbon-fibre Sabelt sport seats, black six-point harnesses and a roll bar in place of the rear seats.

Other standard equipment highlights on the dynamic duo include an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, full Alcantara wrapped interiors, matt carbon interior accents, numbered steering wheel badge, unique exterior badges, carbon-fibre grille and wing mirrors, coloured brake callipers and the ‘Experience Pack’, made up of an authenticity certificate, racing helmet personalised with the car serial number and a Goodwool car cover while GTAm customers will also score an Alpinestars racing suit.

Three colours will be offered on both the GTA and GTAm; Montreal Green, Trofeo White or Edna Rosso, the latter of which is exclusive only to these two variants.

Customers will be able to personalise the look of their GTA by configuring the colour of the brake callipers, interior stitching, seatbelts and roll bar (GTAm only), however jut 18 examples are being made available in our market with GoAuto having contacted the Australian arm of Stellantis for confirmation on the final split.

“What makes this vehicle truly unique is the personalisation offered to the 18 fortunate Australians who will soon own a special piece of Alfa Romeo history, being one of the 500 vehicles produced globally,” Alfa Romeo marking communications director Tom Noble said in a statement.

“As part of the exclusive global program, the 18 Australian owners will receive a certified, numbered vehicle, and will further have the opportunity to personalise their GTA… reminiscent of the spirit of the 1965 Giulia GTA.”

First deliveries of the GTA and GTAm are expected to be made towards the end of the year with the Italian brand having sold 104 Giulias to the end of April, accounting for 2.4 per cent of the $60,000-plus medium car segment.
