Cupra adjusts pricing across line-up

Price changes make some Cupra variants up to $1500 cheaper, others $2000 dearer

26 Jan 2023

CUPRA has announced a series of pricing changes affecting several of its local model lines – including the Leon hatch, and Formentor and Ateca SUVs – with immediate effect.

The Spanish brand says reductions have been made to the price of its Leon VZx to assist “in more aggressively pursuing sales volume”, while price rises affecting Formentor and Ateca models come because of inflation as well as supplier and transport cost increases.

While the communication may appear to send mixed messages to Cupra buyers, the company’s Australian director Ben Wilks says the adjustments are about maximising opportunities.

“We have strategically negotiated even sharper pricing for our Leon hot hatchback, because we have seen greater opportunities emerge in that segment as other well-known names depart,” he explained, likely referring to the recently axed Focus ST and the Renault Megane RS being on death row.

“To secure a 221kW high-performance hatch for under $60,000 before on-road costs in 2023 is a real achievement, as is delivering the unique-in-segment plug-in hybrid hatch with up to 67km of electric-only range.

“We have negotiated this at a time when price rises are affecting the whole industry including our own SUV range, owing to inflation, supplier costs and transport increases.”

The Leon VZx is now priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs (-$1500) or from a national drive-away price of $63,990.

Mr Wilks advised that plug-in hybrid versions of the Leon (VZe) will likewise be priced from $59,990 + ORC (-$500), with state-specific drive-away pricing as follows:

  • Australian Capital Territory: $62,990

  • New South Wales: $64,990

  • Queensland: $63,990

  • South Australia : $64,990

  • Victoria: $65,490

  • Western Australia: $65,990

The mid-tier Leon VZ moves down $1000 to $51,990 + ORC or $56,490 drive-away. The entry spec Leon V remains available from $43,990 + ORC or $47,990 drive-away with orders to commence shortly.

For the Formentor range, we find price decreases of $700 at the entry end, with the Formentor V now available from $49,990 + ORC or $54,490 drive-away.

The mid-tier Formentor VZ rises by $1200 and both VZe and VZx grades are up $2000.

Further, the Leather and Power Package for the entire Formentor range rises by $500, and now includes a 360-degree camera system as part of the bundle.

Finally, the Cupra Ateca SUV faces a price increase of $760, the single-grade VZx variant retailing from $61,750 + ORC.
