LAMBORGHINI has debuted its fastest convertible to date with the protractedly-named Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster rolling out at The Quail Motorsport Gathering in California.
The mighty 552kW Aventador is the first drop-top to bear the storied SV nameplate in more than 50 years of Lamborghini's history, and adds a stripped-out, power boosted convertible version of its mid-engined monster to the raging bull ring.
Just 500 of the vicious cabriolets will be sold worldwide for an asking price of $US530,075 ($A588,277), but the Italian supercar-maker has confirmed a $916,150, plus on-road costs price tag for the exclusive model Down Under, with deliveries commencing next year.
The 'regular' Aventador LP 700-4, which has 515kW by comparison, costs $795,000 plus on-roads for the Roadster version, while the limited edition Pirelli model that launched in June is $821,700 in drop-top guise.
It is unclear how many examples of the global allocation are earmarked for the Australian market.
Like its coupe equivalent, the Roadster has a 6.5-litre V12 mounted behind the its two seats which can send 690Nm of torque to all four wheels, propelling the crazed convertible to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and on to a top speed of more that 350km/h.
With its weight saving modifications, the SV weighs in at just 1575kg thanks to extensive use of carbon-fibre, including the two-piece lift-out hard-top, which in itself weighs just six kilograms.
The Audi AG-owned Italian car-maker has managed to save 50kg from its flagship model and it even incorporates an electric rear window to allow the full sound of a V12 at 8400rpm into the cabin.
Suspension is what Lamborghini refers to as Magneto Rheological and uses pushrod damping not dissimilar to the system used in Formula 1 racers. Steering is Dynamic “for improved driving dynamics”.
“The Superveloce is the purest, most sports-oriented and fastest series production Lamborghini ever,” according to Lamborghini Automobili president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
“The Roadster version represents our commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open air experience.”
