Second-gen Mercedes-AMG GT priced for Oz

MERCEDES-AMG has announced Australian pricing for its second-generation GT coupe, the high-performance model now available to order from $366,500 plus on-road costs.

The news comes almost a year after the updated model was revealed in Europe, the Aussie offering comprising solely the GT 63 4Matic+ with no advice yet on GT 43 or GT 63 S E Performance alternatives.

Updates to the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT include a revised body structure that sees the model offer 2+2 seating for the first time. Fully variable all-wheel drive is also included, joining an updated exterior design, active aerodynamic components, and a modified twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Other changes include flush-fitting door handles, Digital Light with projection functionality, 21-inch alloy wheels in a 10-spoke design, and black-painted AMG brake callipers.

“The new AMG GT Coupe combines highly dynamic driving characteristics and distinctive sportiness with a high level of everyday comfort,” said Mercedes-AMG chairman of the management board Michael Schiebe.

“Our new GT is clearly the top-of-the-line product in our diversified portfolio and is therefore not only AMG’s youngest brand shaper, but also a clear commitment to the sports car made in Affalterbach.”

The revised body structure now includes a mix of aluminium, steel, magnesium and carbon-fibre composite materials to ensure the “highest possible rigidity at a low weight”. It measures 4728mm in length, 1984mm in width, and 1354mm in height. The vehicle rides on a 2700mm wheelbase and tips the scale at 1970kg.

The larger cabin and cargo area are said to increase functionality for everyday use, the rear seats accommodating passengers up to 1.5m in height. Cargo space is listed at 321 litres with the split fold seats in place or 675 litres all told.

“With the new dimension concept and 2+2 seats, we are directly responding to the wishes of our customers,” added Mr Schiebe.

Up front, the hand-assembled 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine receives a new oil pan, repositioned intercooler and active crankcase ventilation, while the inlet and exhaust ports have been “optimised for more effective gas exchange”.

In the Australian-delivered variant, the changes equate to a power figure of 430kW and a torque value of 800Nm, accelerating the GT 63 4Matic+ from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The unit is paired with a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission that now utilises a wet starting clutch in place of a torque converter to lower mass inertia and optimise throttle response.

Top speed is listed at 315km/h, the model said to consume 14.1 litres per 100kmh on the combined cycle while emitting 319 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

Stopping duties are handled by a composite brake system featuring cast steel rotors and aluminium brake pots, newly designed to improve cooling and reduce unsprung mass.

Elsewhere, equipment highlights include a Burmester surround sound system with 11 speakers and 600-watt output, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless device charging, MBUX navigation, ambient cabin lighting, AMG aluminium trim, and a fixed panoramic sunroof.

Driver assistance technologies include a 360-degree camera system, active parking assist, active steering assist, adaptive cruise control, AEB, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition.

Option bundles include the AMG Night Package ($9900), AMG Carbon-Fibre Package ($12,900), and AMG Performance Seat Package ($2490). Twelve paint hues, six leather upholstery themes, and six alloy wheel designs are further available.
