SsangYong lobs all-new Korando pricing

Korando mid-size SUV arrives in local SsangYong showrooms from $32,990 driveaway

30 Sep 2019

SSANGYONG Australia has released pricing and specification for its all-new Korando mid-size SUV, which has arrived in showrooms priced from $32,990 driveaway.

The Korando is the first new model to arrive since the South Korean brand’s relaunch Down Under at the end of 2018 and will initially be offered with two Limited Edition variants before the arrival of the full-time range at a later stage.

Opening the range is the ELX LE grade that will launch at $32,990 driveaway, while the range-topping Ultimate LE asks $39,990 driveaway.

Both versions come equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing 100kW at 4000rpm and 324Nm at 1500rpm, and mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The diesel mill powers the front wheel on the ELX, resulting in fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100km and CO2 consumption of 144 grams of CO2 per km, while the all-wheel-drive Ultimate sips 6.4L/100km while emitting 165g/km of CO2.

When GoAuto drove the Korando in South Korea in April, SsangYong Australia said an all-new, 120kW/280Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit will become available in Australia and prove to be the most popular engine choice.

Further down the line, an all-electric version can also be expected to join the range.

An impressive range of active safety features will be available across the range, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and intervention, high-beam assist and driver attention alert.

Standard equipment in the ELX LE includes LED daytime running lights and combination tail-lights, auto-levelling headlights, rain-sensing wipers, body-coloured side mirrors with LED indicators, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a rear skid plate and a smart key with automatic door locking.

Inside, it scores a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a six-speaker audio system, air-conditioning, a leather steering wheel, an acoustic windscreen, tinted windows, cloth upholstery, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Stepping up to the Ultimate LE adds 19-inch alloys with a full-size spare, leather seats, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, tyre pressure monitoring, LED headlights and front foglights, a power tailgate, a tonneau cover, a chrome grille and dual-zone climate control.

Both grades employ MacPherson-strut front and multi-link rear suspension, while the 1506-1596kg Korando features a braked towing capacity of 2000kg.

Measuring 4450mm long, 1620mm tall and 1870mm wide, luggage volume is rated at 551 litres, up to 1248L with the second-row seats stowed.

A comprehensive seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty is available on both Korando variants, with also includes seven years of roadside assist and capped-price servicing.

SsangYong Australia has said it will release further information on the full-time Korando range shortly.

To the end of August, SsangYong has recorded 356 overall sales, 235 of which have come in the last month. The Musso pick-up has been the most popular model with 192 sales, followed by the Rexton large SUV at 110 units.
