Mazda prices updated CX-5 from $32,190

MAZDA has unveiled pricing for its updated CX-5, the recently refreshed mid-size SUV now priced from $32,190 plus on-road costs, a $1000 increase on the entry price of last year’s range.

The CX-5 model range now offers six trim grades, two transmission choices, four engines and the choice of front- and all-wheel drive and is topped by the Akera AWD Diesel variant which increases in price by $1300 to $53,680 (plus on-road costs).

“Versatility is synonymous with Mazda CX-5, and this update bolsters that quality; more uniquely defined grades grow the potential for customers to find their perfect fit within the range, selecting the vehicle that best suits their style and lifestyle,” said Mazda Australia managing director, Vinesh Bhindi.

“It’s a significant update for Mazda CX-5, which remains an Aussie favourite and a mainstay in the Mazda line-up, soon to be joined by the first of Mazda’s new-generation large-platform SUVs arriving in 2022, the CX-60.

“With vehicle supply returning to pre-pandemic levels, Mazda is well placed to meet customer demand for new CX-5 and other models.”

Distinguished by a new frontal design and signature wing, gentler body styling and comprehensively redesigned head and tail-lights, the MY22 Mazda CX-5 range is further defined by differing alloy wheel sizes and trim garnishes between grades, and body-coloured cladding on high-spec Akera variants.

GT SP variants now receive black highlights including a gloss-black finish for the signature wing, grille, mirror caps and wheels which are complemented by an all-black interior with red accents.

Meanwhile, the newly-introduced Touring Active variant adds exterior cladding to the doors and rear bumpers to imbue what Mazda says is an “outdoor spirit”. The variant is further enhanced by lime green accents on the grille, upholstery, and air-conditioning louvres.

Engine choices remain unchanged with 2.0 and 2.5-litre petrol, 2.5-litre turbo-petrol, and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel units available across the range. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions remain available, with Mazda retuning the latter to provide what it says is a more “responsive and refreshed” feel.

Further to this, Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) will debut on Mazda CX-5, enabling the driver to select between drive modes with the push of a switch.

Mazda has also tweaked the suspension characteristics of the updated CX-5 adding a new damping control structure it says complements the revised model’s more rigid body to provide improved ride comfort and NVH levels.

Passengers will also benefit from a mildly overhauled cabin with all variants receiving new seats; the high-grade Akera variant adding Nappa leather upholstery.

Although end-of-year sales figures are yet to be announced, it’s expected the Mazda CX-5 will finish the 2021 as the second best-selling SUV in its segment (SUV Medium under $60K). To the end of November, VFACTS data shows Mazda sold 22,820 examples of the CX-5 behind the segment leading Toyota RAV4 (32,753 units). 

The updated Mazda CX-5 is on sale now.
