Mazda CX-60, CX-90 recalled for steering fault

Over 5000 vehicles recalled for steering assembly issue, Mazda CX-60, CX-90 affected

1 Feb 2024

THOUSANDS of Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 SUVs have been recalled this week over a power steering issue that could result in injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

The Australian government’s Vehicle Recalls website says the issue is the result of a manufacturing defect whereby a gear set within the power steering assembly may not operate as intended. As a result, the driver could experience unexpected increased steering effort.

Further, the site warns that an unexpected increased effort in power steering while driving could increase the risk of an accident, “causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users”.

Every variant of the Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 range with a 2024 compliance plate is understood to be affected by the fault – in all some 5257 cars.

As with any recall notice, the importer (Mazda Australia) will contact owners to correct the defect free of charge when parts are made available. Vehicle owners may also check if their car is included in the recall by checking the vehicle’s VIN against the recall notice.

“When parts are available, owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Mazda Australia and are asked to present their vehicle to their preferred dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge,” the Vehicle Recalls website states.

Concerned owners may also wish to contact the Mazda Australia customer support line on 1800 034 411.
